Kingsdon Ladies Club

Lynne Davies welcomed 15 members and a visitor to the September meeting.
Harvest Supper Sunday 4th October: Tickets are now on sale from Ann Leahy & Jackie Ellis.
Venue for the Christmas Meal: Possible locations discussed were the Lime Kiln, Langport Arms, The Elms & Yeovil College.
Birthday girls were Joyce Limon, Lyn Attwell, Angie Saunders & Julie South.
The guest speakers for the evening were Clem & Val Pryor who gave a talk on the history of canals and a demonstration of narrow boat art. Over the last 20 years they have been commissioned to decorate many boats. It was a very enjoyable talk and Lynne gave the vote of thanks.
October 13th will be our next meeting when the guest speaker will be Celia Harvey whose subject will be 'A life time of Embroidery'
New members and visitors are always welcome.

Park Farm Development

It is surprising what can be unearthed when a property is being developed. On the left is a pit that was uncovered adjacent to the iron railings in Lower Road, which after examination by experts still remains a mystery as to its age or purpose. It is thought it might be a pit for plunging in wheels for rapid cooling after the iron strap / rim has been fitted by a smith. Alan & Mary Whitehead who grew up at Park Farm were unaware of its existence. Since the photograph left was taken the pit has been capped and made safe. as can be seen in the below right photograph
