Kingsdon Tree Planting Association

Dear Villagers

As has been discussed with many of you already I am keen to arrange the planting of some native saplings within Kingsdon. The usual method is to put in an application for a grant

The Council will not consider many small applications and hence the formation of KTPA whereby I can collate all the requests and submit one application under that title. If there is a sufficient response to be successful we would receive small 'whips' complete with tree guards - meaning that we can benefit our environment at no cost to ourselves (other than dirty hands and copious buckets of water!)

If you are interested in having any trees on your property or elsewhere in/around Kingsdon, please could you let me know by the end of October in order that we may plant early in 2010

Wildflowers
In addition, there has been a lot of support for the setting aside of a small area of the Village Field for wildflowers (position still to be confirmed). Having done some research on the matter I feel that I will need the help of some volunteers to get this project underway. I would be very pleased to hear from those of you who would be interested
Thank you
Alison Hicks (Tree Warden)

Postscript from Donald Limon

I hate to disagree somewhat with both of these initiatives. On trees, the story about the trees in Mow Barton Road should make us think twice about every single proposition which emerges. A recent bloomer has been the planting of several birch trees on the border between the ?new? Langlands Farm and Mundays. Other projected planting on that site are equally insensitive. On wildflowers, I have twice tried to establish wild flower areas in the garden at West Barn. The first, using seeds, was a total failure and the second, using plugs, was also a flop.

SPEED KILLS IN KINGSDON

Alt Text
Speeding traffic through Kingsdon has sadly claimed the life of our very dear family pet 'Crumble the Cat'. A likely consequence of owning a cat, some of you may say, but one that could be significantly reduced or avoided altogether if we all just slowed down a bit when driving through the village.

Kingsdon is a small and intricate village that was not designed for vehicles (cars vans, motorcycles, lorries and tractors) to tear around at high speed, there is an increasing trend to drive far too fast on Kingsdon's roads, particularly the three boundary roads (Top Street, North Town/Lottment Hill and Lower Road). The loss of Crumble the cat is heartbreaking. But When and who will be the next fatality- child, cyclist, pedestrian???

May I ask, for the benefit of all of Kingsdon's residents (animal and human), that we all take an honest look at our speedometers and really reduce our speed through the village making it a safer and more pleasant environment for everyone. Kingsdon is not a through route village, so we probably know many of the out of village drivers who may also go at speed along our roads, surely we can politely pass on the message to them, also or perhaps show them this letter?

TWENTY is PLENTY through the village

It would be interesting to hear other people's views on this in the next Chronicle. David & Julia, 30 Kingsdon

TO ALL DOG OWNERS

On Monday morning 28th September , I had to remove a copious quantity of dog faeces from the recreation field in the area of the goal posts where the children play Can I please remind you that dogs are required to be on leads and kept to the footpath across the recreation field. If your dog does defecate on the field, please clean it up rather than leave it to me to do! Wally
